Limburg Wines

On the rise
Limburg has a large number of quality wines and this is evident from their popularity. Did you know that people from Belgium and abroad come specifically to Limburg to discover it for themselves? Most estates therefore offer tastings and are also located in beautiful surroundings – so we don't always have to go to France or Italy for a unique experience. White wine and sparkling wine do particularly well in Limburg. Just look at the wine list of the better Belgian restaurants: Limburg wine guaranteed, because Belgian quality scores today!
Medals
At the election for Belgium's best wines, organized by the Association of Flemish Sommeliers, various Limburg wine estates win the vast majority of medals every year. The most well-known estates among them are Genoels-Elderen, Aldeneyck, Schorpion, Hoenshof, and Pietershof. Last year they took home no less than 14 of the 32 gold medals. The climate for viticulture is therefore excellent in Limburg. With Haspengouw, the Voerstreek, and the Meuse Valley, we have 3 top-located sites, each with their own character for a powerful wine.
Professor Ghislain Houben, professor of entrepreneurship at Hasselt University, launched the very first Belgian ice wine last year. You can read that story here. So we're not standing still in terms of innovation either.
Price tag
A bottle of Limburg wine obviously cannot compete in price with wines from the supermarket. On the one hand, the large economies of scale of foreign estates are not achievable here, on the other hand, viticulture is very labor-intensive and is still often done here in a very artisanal way. We can only applaud the latter!
